Exercise #348: Close-Range One-Touch Shots off a Low Cross
OBJECTIVE:
This exercise sharpens the keeper's reflexes by requiring him to make a save off a one-touch shot at close range.
DESCRIPTION:
The coach should be lined up on the corner of the field, between a goal post and the corner flag (with several balls). Another player should be positioned about 12 yards out from the goal, across from the opposite goal post. The keeper starts in the middle of his goal, sprints to touch the post closest to the coach, and immediately gets back to the center of his goal to cut off the shooter's angle and save a ball that the coach has served to the shooter just as the keeper touched the front post. The coach's services should be firm and along the ground, and the shooter should take a one-touch shot on goal. The keeper must make the save and immediately get back up to sprint and touch the post again to start the next service.

"I really liked your article. I have used this method for a long time with lots of teams I have coached. Your article expressed the tactic very simply and effectively. I am sure it helped a lot of people. It is amazing what being alert to this simple concept can do for a team that finds it difficult to mount effective counterattacks. Nice job!"
