Exercise #371: 1v1 Saves from the Knees

OBJECTIVE:

This exercise is good development for your keeper to get used to the correct technique for making 1v1 saves.

DESCRIPTION:

The keeper sits up on his knees (not resting back on his heels) with a ball on the ground in front of him. When the coach says, "Save!" (not "Go!"), the keeper should slide into the ball for the 1v1 save (from his knees). Be sure to have the keeper slide into it from both his left and right sides.

VARIANT:

After the keeper has gotten used to the required technique to make this save, add another keeper to the exercise. They should be facing each other with the ball in the middle between them, and one saves, gets up, and then the other saves. They should be able to get into a rhythm.

Customer Comments

"I really liked your article. I have used this method for a long time with lots of teams I have coached. Your article expressed the tactic very simply and effectively. I am sure it helped a lot of people. It is amazing what being alert to this simple concept can do for a team that finds it difficult to mount effective counterattacks. Nice job!"
